Profile of Pražská energetika Group

Pražská energetika Group (PRE) is a company with a rich tradition dating back over more than one hundred years. On 1 September 1897 Elektrické podniky královského města Prahy (Electrical Works of the Royal City of Prague) was founded, a company which PRE considers to be its direct legal predecessor. At that time, this company provided all the electricity production for the capital city, including construction, maintenance and operation of all electric tram routes, electric lighting in the streets and at home and of course electric power distribution to large industrial companies, commercials and households.

During the first half of last century the company underwent reorganisation and restructuring many times. It survived two world wars, the socialist management era and in 1990 Pražské energetické závody became an independent state-owned company.

On 1 January 1994 the joint stock company Pražská energetika, a. s., was created in its current form. Over the years the company became a modern, customer-oriented entity, which is aware of its social and environmental responsibility.

With its 745,000 customers, PRE is the third largest electricity supplier in the Czech Republic. At the moment the company has approximately 1,330 employees, supplies circa 6.5 TWh of electricity to its customers per year and in 2009 the company generated the turnover of CZK 20.7 billion.

Fundamental activities of the companies of PRE Group contain sale of electricity, trading with electricity, electricity distribution and auxiliary energy services.

PRE has successfully come into terms with the challenges of the market that undergoes liberalisation and the company also advocates free competition in the energy industry. In order to provide for non-discriminatory behaviour of a network operator the company has founded its own distribution company PREdistribuce, a. s., at the start of the year 2006. Main tasks of this new entity include operation, administration and renewal of distribution networks in Prague and the town of Roztoky.

In addition to the new distribution system operator there are three other 100% owned subsidiaries of PRE that contribute to providing for electricity supply in Prague:

• PREměření, a. s. – Repairs and installation of electricity meters; reading of electricity meters at the customer premises on the supply territory of PREdistribuce, a. s.
• PREleas, a. s. – Leasing operations for members of the PRE Group

In accordance with their motto “Convenient Energy for You” all entities of the PRE Group consider reliable supply of electricity to all customers in their respective supply territory as their priority task.
